Meet The Spudfellas: A New Chapter in North Wales Street Food

Powered by potatoes!

When your body says it’s time to slow down, but your spirit isn’t done hustling, what do you do? If you're Tony — a hardworking, self-employed plasterer turned street food entrepreneur — you roll up your sleeves, rebrand your future, and launch a baked potato trailer with a name full of swagger: The Spudfellas.

Tony, my son-in-law, has always been the kind of man who gets things done. But after years of working hard for his family — with growing aches and pains in his shoulder — he knew he needed a career change. What followed was a leap of faith, a trailer, a truckload of determination, and one mighty good idea: hot, fluffy, generously topped baked potatoes, served fresh out of a trailer decked in the bold Spudfellas logo. And let me tell you — he’s flying.

Since launching just a few weeks ago, The Spudfellas has been a runaway hit in the North Wales street food scene. Trading at well-loved local spots like The Swan in St Asaph, Y Bodunig Inn, and a busy pitch in Rhyl, Tony has been selling out every day. Customers are queuing, social posts are racking up thousands of views, and the reviews are glowing. There’s laughter at the window, big portions in every box, and a lot of people being called “brother” in Tony’s signature style.

The Spudfellas trailer is newly kitted out, fully licensed, and full of character — just like its owner. Tony preps all the fillings himself: slow-cooked pulled pork, rich beef chilli, and a rotation of comforting favourites. Each spud is served up with serious generosity and optional extras like grated cheese, crispy onions, and spring onions piled high. No corners cut. No stingy portions. Just proper food made with care.

As a photographer and a family member, it was such a joy to be there on launch day to capture the buzz, the proud moments, and the brilliant energy of Tony’s new chapter. I’ll be sharing more photos over on my Wild & Plated gallery — because stories like this deserve to be celebrated.

Spudfellas is more than just a trailer. It’s a reminder that it’s never too late to pivot, to grow, and to do something that fills you with purpose (and fills others with carbs and happiness).

Tony, we’re all so proud of you. And to everyone in North Wales — if you see The Spudfellas logo roll into town … get in the queue!
